Accountant in Calgary | The Story Behind Blue Skies Accounting
Over 50 years ago, Bruce Koss took his first steps into the accounting world, earning his Registered Industrial Accountant (RIA) designation, which would eventually become the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) in 1985. Bruce’s career began in the forestry industry, where he honed his skills before moving to an accounting firm. In the early 1970s, Bruce made a bold move by starting his own practice. His passion and dedication paid off as the practice grew, forming partnerships with other accountants and insurance providers, expanding into a team of five. However, by the late 1980s, Bruce and his wife decided to scale back to prepare for retirement, continuing under the name Koss & Associates Inc.
In 1993, Bruce’s eldest son, Cory Koss, joined the firm, eager to carry forward his father’s legacy. Cory worked closely under Bruce’s mentorship while pursuing his formal accounting education. In 2004, after earning his CMA designation, Cory took over the business, allowing Bruce and his wife to achieve their dream of retirement.
The firm evolved over the years, adapting to industry changes. From Koss & Associates Inc. to Cory Koss Professional Corporation, Certified Management Accountant, the firm responded to new regulations and opportunities. In 2020, the company became Cory Koss Professional Corporation, Chartered Professional Accountant, continuing to provide trusted services to its clients.
As the accounting landscape changed, Cory saw an opportunity to reimagine the business. In late 2023, he embraced a fresh, forward-looking approach, launching Blue Skies Professional Corporation, Chartered Professional Accountant, now known as Blue Skies Accounting. With a renewed focus on the future, Blue Skies Accounting is committed to helping clients achieve their financial goals with clarity and confidence.

- Spending time with my Wife, Keeshonden and with friends
- Camping in the RV in Kananaskis or Bow Valley
- Sitting behind the computer playing World of Warcraft or planning a flight and flying it in Microsoft Flight Simulator
- Behind the decks mixing music for fun or at a wedding or party for friends

- Stories of personal growth and triumph.
- After going through my Cancer treatment, I enjoy reading and watching stories of people overcoming trauma and living their best lives!
I do what I do because…
- I want to help empower people with financial literacy so they can build their own stories of growth and triumph!
The biggest change I want to see in the world is…
- I want to see a world where everybody is living their best lives without fear or judgment, and where people support each other instead of tearing each other down

- Maintaining and enjoying the garden oasis I have built for Sushi and Littlefoot in my backyard

- I find satisfaction in the detailed work of accounting. It gives me a sense of accomplishment to know that my efforts contribute to the financial health and peace of mind of my clients.

- That people are more mindful and present in their, appreciating the simple joys of life
